The Toncabean
More than a kitchen spice
The bean is a seed of the tonkabean tree, which finds its roots in South America and is used in many ways:
In ice cream as well as in various other desserts, in perfume making or as a remedy. It is fragrant thanks to the
notes of vanilla, bitter almond and tobacco, making it one of the oriental gourmand fragrances.
(I will write another blog post about this).
Healing properties
Tonka bean has a healing effect due to the contained coumarin (cinnamon). Coumarin is supposed to calm down and anti-inflammatory. However, you shouldn’tt consume more than 2 g daily.
An exotic taste and scent experience
I would like you to ask in your nearest perfumery for a fragrance containing tonkabean and you will definitely want to bite into the test strip.
– but I’d rather recommend a scoop of tonkabean icecream.
